What’s In Your Grocery Cart??

May 18th, 2009

Not too long ago, Kate of (BecomingKate) wrote an entry in her blog about the price of various groceries such as milk etc., which I really found interesting. Maybe I’m odd, but I find it fascinating to see what other people are paying for products across the world.

As I was walking through the produce section of one of the four supermarkets we went to this morning, I decided that I would share a little about the fresh fruits and vegetables that found themselves in our shopping cart this morning, and what we paid for them.

In turn- I’d love to kow what’s in your grocery cart, or the price of similar items in your own city.

Neverland is a fantastic place to get fresh fruits and vegetables. Truth is, I rarely buy anything frozen, and the only thing I buy in the can is pinto beans, and that’s only when I’m too lazy to cook them from dried, which is most of the time.

I rarely buy vegetables or fruit that isn’t in season, because often time, it isn’t as flavorful, and I find myself not wanting to eat it.

Today- we added the following to our grocery cart as part of this weeks shopping:

  • Green Beans-  $1.30 a pound.
  • Pole Beans-      $1.45 a pound.
  • Honeydew Melon-  $1.30.
  • Cauliflower-  $1.30.
  • Grape Tomatoes (my favorite)- $1.55 for 10 ounces.
  • Package of 3 bell peppers (red, yellow, green)- $1.30 for three.
  • Zuchhini-  .55 each.
  • 4 white asparagus-  .75 .

Aside from a bag of mixed greens that we paid $1.50 for, and two bags of stir-fry vegetables that we paid $1.30 each, that’s it for the fresh vegetables and fruit in our cart this week.

What about yours?   I’d love to know what’s in your shopping cart.

Oh, and before you think that the only thing we buy is great food that’s good for you, note that we also bought 6 packages of cookies that were on sale, plus another two boxes of cookies, and two huge chocolate bars- all for either my darling husband or for anyone stopping by.    I personally try to steer very clear of all that, because I enjoy it too much once I get started.

Marcel doesn’t like asparagus so I only bought four pieces. It’s my first time ever to buy fresh, so I’m curious how it’s going to turn out- I had some grilled last week when we ate out, and now I’m craving it.

That isn’t too bad for the watermelon or the corn.. I love both of those and can’t wait until they come into season here.

Kimmie you can get them at the Vomar I think- and they have them at the Black Market and at Makro. If you can’t find them, I’d be more than happy to pick some up for you, or then again, that would be a good excuse for you to come visit heeehee
