April 29th, 2009

The past few days I’ve been fluxuating between being hot and cold, in what seems to be one moment to the next. I’ve chalked it up to allergies, and maybe it’s actually a little cool for this time of the year- especially since last year this time, I think it was 10 degrees warmer.

I couldn’t help but think about the temps that my parents are having in the deep south, and started thinking about our trip home- one day in particular that we took a Sunday afternoon drive to Dauphin Island. We walked along the beach, and I found myself photographing countless items that are the aftermath of what was once known as Hurricane Katrina. I couldn’t believe, that several years after the storm, reminders of her are visible all over the island.

We walked along the sandy beaches, and ended up meeting a really nice snowbird couple who were visiting from either Michigan or Minnesota. I forget which one, but Minnesota comes to mind. They were a really nice couple, with no children, who spend several months each winter on the coast. That was their first trip to Dauphin Island, and while they were enjoying it, the one thing they weren’t enjoying were the knats- every southerners pet peeve.

After talking with them for what seemed like close to an hour, we turned and headed back up the beach towards the car. I turned back towards the west as the sun was sinking, and snapped a couple shots. The photo below, is one of the resulting images. I love the golden glow, and when I look at it, I can remember the warmth against my skin. It was a great day spent with mom, diddy and Marcel.

“Kind hearts are the gardens, Kind thoughts are the roots, Kind words are the flowers, Kind deeds are the fruits.  Take care of your garden, And keep out the weeds, Fill it with SUNSHINE, Kind words and kind deeds.”   -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I was going to say that I could imagine the warmth on my skin by that picture also. Fantastic shot!

I wish that I knew your email addy because there is so much that I would love to tell you.

My health is really bad. Not only are the chronic headaches taking over my life, new symptoms have occurred. In a VERY short amount of time, I lost 38 lbs. I have been to the doctor, but they wont listen, they think I am on a diet or something and I am NOT.

My Uncle Tim is passing away from 2 forms of cancer. I got to see him when I was home a few months ago.

Mom and I are no longer speaking(AGAIN). But, that’s a long story.

I haven’t felt like blogging because things are just that bad, sure they could be worst, but to me, it’s really hard.

Now, that I wrote a book, I wish you well my friend.

I do love the beach Bobby. When I am stressed, that’s the place I crave to be, the beach- near the water.

I hope you are feeling better Dorrie. It’s no fun being sick, especially when you have so much to do. I hope the rest of your week is a good one. :) I look forward to the shirt.

It definitely makes me dreamy summer.
