Tragedy in Canada

March 19th, 2009

I heard about the skiing accident that actress Natasha Richardson had, yesterday morning when Iwas watching Anderson Cooper 360 that I DVR’d.    I honestly didn’t think much more about it,  until this morning when I was again watching A.C. 360 and Anderson was reporting that she had passed away.

I don’t personally know Natasha, but the tears were flowing as I listened to Anderson talk about how what appeared to be a simple skiing accident turned into tragedy.  They talked about how after the accident she was talking and said she was ‘fine’,  even sending away an ambulance that arrived on the scene.   Later, she was taken to the hospital, after complaining of a headache.

The cause of death was an epidural hematoma caused by blunt force when she had the accident, and there was really no way of knowing that there was something deadly happening as the blood clot formed and her brain began to swell.

Sadly, it’s possible that she may have lived if she’d been able to have surgery in time, and I do pray that others will learn in light of this tragedy that when suffering from a head injury even when things seem OK that it can’t hurt anything to be checked by a doctor, and it could very well save your life.

My heart and prayers go out to Liam Neeson, their two children, other family and friends.  I pray that they’ll find peace and comfort during the upcoming days and months.  I know it’s never easy losing someone we love, especially so unexpected.
