The Spider

September 14th, 2009

Last night, I noticed there as a mini-daddylong legs looking spider on the ceiling just over the couch. If you know anything about me, then you probably know that I have a serious fear of spiders. My parents can tell you that I’ve been known to call them in the past to come clear the spiders from around my house, because I didn’t want to run risk of seeing one, much less running into a web with a spider intact.

Well, last night I asked Marcel to get rid of the spider. Since it was on the ceiling, he said he couldn’t reach it with a tissue, so I had this brilliant (or at least it seemed that way at the time), idea of letting the spider crawl onto the broom, where we could then put him outside and Marcel could squish him. Please, don’t write me hate letters or comments for killing spiders, I dispise them all equally and even though I know they eat bugs and all that jazz, I prefer the bugs to the creepy-crawly 8 legged creatures, so death to spiders, I say.

I took the broom and placed it below the spider thinking that he’d crawl onto the broom and Marcel could deposit him outside where, he’d meet his untimely death. Well I should have known better. What happened instead is that the spider took off running across the ceiling as though he knew his fate, and when I tried to chase after him with the broom, he fell- onto the couch where I lounge every evening. I went into immediate panic mode, put Mister M. on the sofa in hopes that he’d find the spider and save the day, but no- said spider was and is no where to be found. We pulled out the flashlight and turned on every light in the living room but no spider. I felt like spiders were crawling all over me, and when I think about it, I still feel that way. I hope that spider is still running for his life, and that I won’t wake up one morning in the bed with him crawling across my face. I think if that happens, I may just have a heart attack.
