Surprise- Trust30 (Day 13)

June 12th, 2011

Think of a time when you didn’t think you were capable of doing something, but then surprised yourself.  How will you surprise yourself this week?

The one moment in time that really was a turning point for me was when I was in Prague in 2008.   I had never been heavy growing up or into young adulthood but gained a LOT of weight during my first marriage.  The marriage ended but the weight stayed.   In 2008 I decided it was time to change my life and start exercising, eating healthy and to really get rid of the excess weight.   I was a walking risk factor for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and high cholesterol.  I knew it wasn’t a question of ‘IF’ but a question of when.

I did the work and the pounds came off.    Then we went to Prague for vacation with my parents.   After walking across the Charles Bridge- I saw the steep hill that would ultimately take us to Prague Castle and knew that the only way to get there would be to walk.    I stood at the bottom of that hill telling myself there was no way I could get to the top of it.   I just couldn’t.   But then something within said-  “Just do it.”    So I did-  In fact, I walked to the top and was barely winded- so when I looked out over the city- the red clay tile roofs below me, I had tears in my eyes.  That was a life changing moment for me, because I realized then just how much I’d been limiting myself.   Never again.  Never again.

As far as this week-  I’m not sure what I’ll do to suprise myself, but I will definitely do something.

I will not hide my tastes or aversions. I will so trust that what is deep is holy, if we follow the truth, it will bring us out safe at last. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is inspiring. We all have a negative voice that talks to our self and holds us back. It is not always a true voice.

More often than not- it’s not a true voice.. I think anything that attempts to hold us back from being all that we can shoudn’t be listened to- but then that’s easier said than done :)
