January 3rd, 2010

I went into this New Year with great expectations, and so far everything is exceeding what I’d hoped. I know this only means that there are greater things to come, and I’m looking forward to each and every adventure that enters my path.

Today, I begin a continuation of a journey I started in January of 2008- a journey to reach my weight loss goals. The interesting thing is, that when I started that journey, I had one thing in mind- losing weight, but along the way, I learned so much more about myself, and about being healthy, making right choices, and that losing weight is more a mental process than it is about making the right food choices.

This past year my commitment to myself slipped and even though I managed to lose 10 pounds in 2009, I didn’t work hard at attaining my goal. In fact, the past several months, I’ve made some bad food choices which were quickly becoming bad habits. It took me a while to understand why I was doing it. I was reacting on emotions and not on needs for my body, which I knew all along- but thought I was beyond that. Obviously, it’s something I never get beyond and that’s why staying present in the moment is so important to this journey. When I stop being conscious about the choices I’m making- I end up eating six cookies for lunch and binging on fudge. That’s not who I am, and I know I can and will make better choices. Not just because I want to see the numbers on the scale reach my goal, but because I want to be healthy. I want to give my body what it deserves, after all, I wake up each morning and it functions for me without fail.

That, my friends, is something to be grateful for and I need to cherish that.
