In the “Cupcake Kitchen”

April 14th, 2012

That’s where I’ve been for many hours this week-  in the space now coined the ‘cupcake kitchen’.  It’s also the space where the magic happens-  and this week I had a pretty big challenge set in front of me.   I received an order for a themed birthday party and I needed to create some fondant magic.   I really had no idea what I was doing- so after much planning and plotting (and waking up in the middle of the night with ideas)- I finally put my plan into action and earlier this week created the fondant toppers for the cupcakes.

I’ll share a photo tomorrow, but I have not really shown them to anyone because I want to make sure that the client sees them for the first time tomorrow.  I’m hoping she likes them, but in all honestly I’m thrilled with the way they turned out.

It’s no secret that I’m not a huge fan of fondant.  I think it’s gorgeous- and allows for a lot of creativity- but in terms of flavor, I think to have a cupcake covered in fondant (or a cake) just leaves something to be desired in the flavor department.   Maybe it’s because I like the wow factor- not just in asthetics, but in taste as well.     But I’m more than happy to give any customer what they want-  after all they are the boss- they’re paying.

This week’s order allowed me the best of both worlds-   beautiful little specialty cupcakes with a fondant addition on top-  It can easily be removed and eaten alone, or it can be eaten alongside the cupcake- but it won’t take away from the overall flavor.   That makes me happy.

I spent most of today in the cupcake kitchen, and most of yesterday.  I wanted to test and tweak a few recipes- which I did yesterday, and today was baking day for tomorrow’s delivery.    Once I was done- it was time to clean up everything,  put away the Kitchen Aid and everything else related to baking- and pull out everything for dinner and get it going.     Thankfully Marcel was sweet enough to do the dishes and I didn’t have to do them for the umpteenth time today.

Tomorrow evening- I plan to spend some time sitting outside in the sunshine-  and relaxing.

I also plan to write about the Rubbermaid Recycler give away -and tell y’all all about it- so watch this space.  After all- you could win your own Rubbermaid Recycler- thanks to the great folks at Rubbermaid.     More on that tomorrow.
