A Little Update

August 11th, 2017

It has been a while.   Some of you who don’t follow me on Social media may be wondering if I survived and made it to the version 5.0 & the answer to that would be a resounding YES!

With that being said, the recurring theme seems to continue to play-   Life has been busy-   Insanely busy to say that least, but with the daylight hours getting shorter and the hint of Autumn in the air-  I suspect that things will start slowing down soon.

I had an amazing time in London for my birthday with Samantha.   I will share more about that on another day.  Since she left- work has been in full force and earlier this week my sweet boy Mister Mistoffeeles went in for thyroid surgery.   As I type this-  he’s lying beside me sleeping, with his makeshift collar around his neck.   He wanted to scratch his wound area, so I cut up an old sock and put it over his head-    thus far it’s working and he doesn’t seem to mind, which is the best part.

I am grateful to the vet for suggesting the surgery.   The medication was working just fine- but it was a twice a day ordeal, plus when we travel we need to make sure that someone will give him the proper medication at the time needed.    There is definitely the possibility for error with that- as we found out the first time we went away after he was diagnosed.

Now, he shouldn’t need medication any longer.    Granted, there’s the possibility that the other side of his thyroid will have issues-  but that is a bridge I will cross if I need to.  Right now, I don’t have to think about it.  Instead, I can kick off the weekend with time spent cuddling my favorite feline.

On Getting Older

March 8th, 2017

My favorite feline is turning 12 this year. I’ve noticed small changes in him that start to occur when cats get older. He’s losing muscle mass and in turn seeming a little thinner. Ragdoll cats are large breeds, and he still weighs more than 10 pounds, but those little things tell me he’s getting older. I’m so grateful that he still plays. In fact, lately he plays more than he has in years. For a long time after we got JJ he wouldn’t play at all, because every single time he did, JJ would intervene and spoil the fun. He still tries to, but Mister M. will often turn the tables and pounce on JJ, which leads to a crazy chase or some other fun for the two of them. It more often than not leads to me breaking them up, to avoid excessive hair flying all over the house. They love each other, even if they don’t necessarily admit it.

Knowing that he is getting older leaves me faced with that one day I’ll have to say goodbye to him & that’s something I can’t begin to imagine. Thankfully, right now I don’t have to. Instead, I’ll continue to love him (even when he’s being naughty) and cherish every moment we have together. That’s what matters most.

The Joy of Pets

April 5th, 2016

If you know me in person, then you also have had the great pleasure of knowing two of my favorite ‘critters’ on the planet-   IMG_1539JJ and Mister Mistoffeeles.    JJ, the Cairn Terrier, who never meets a stranger, and pretty much loves everyone.   He’s smart, social and a joy.  Even when he’s misbehaving and getting into trouble, the looks he gives me often have me cracking up with laughter.

Mister M. is more of the majestic, total zen and cool cat.    He doesn’t let much get under his skin, but at the same time he’s extremely spoiled.   He likes to drink water from the bathroom sink- and will sit there sometimes for an hour waiting for someone to enter and give him some.   I guess we can’t say he isn’t patient when it comes to that.    On the other hand,  like many cats, he can be quite demanding- wanting to be petted and meowing until he gets his way.   Stop before he’s ready and you’ll be met with more meows.

IMG_1480I miss them when we travel and know that it doesn’t matter if we leave the house for five minutes or five weeks, they are always thrilled to see us return.    I know not everyone finds pets to bring such joy to their household, but I can’t imagine my life without them.   I know Marcel feels the same.

As you can see from the photo (both of these are from my Instagram feed-   you can find me by searching for Wizardress), Mister M. was having one of his moments and thinking that the Apple TV remote was a chew toy-   He is obsessed with it for some reason.   I’m not sure why, but if he had his way and I wasn’t paying attention, he would be using it to bat all over the house.

Needless to say, that’s not happening.

Even in those little ‘naughty’ moments, I still smile, and wouldn’t take anything for them.    After all, they are our four-legged members of the family.

My Constant Shadow

March 17th, 2016

Mister Mistoffelees, my favorite cat on the planet.    He will be 11 years old in August- and still full of spunk.  I love him dearly.  He is loyal, albeit occasionally moody (who isn’t?).  He makes me laugh on a daily basis and brings me constant joy.    He’s VERY spoiled, and a bit of a diva (if men could be divas), but if you’ve met him, you would be hard pressed not to fall in love with him on the spot.IMG_0687

I’ve always been a cat person, since I was a child.   Don’t get me wrong, I love all animals, but cats have my soul.   When I was a child, I wanted to BE a cat.  (Yes, it’s true! haha)   When the super hero cartoons would come on,  I would always pretend I was cat woman.  I loved her-  and felt sure that if there was a super hero that I should be-  it should definitely be her!   I also wanted to be Wonder Woman, too, but that has nothing at all to do with my love of cats, but I also digress.

I shared this photo yesterday on Instagram.  I happened to notice when Mister M. woke up from one of his many daily naps, and snapped this shot with my iPhone before he ran off to eat.   Right now, as I type this, he’s curled up on the edge of the sofa behind me, awaiting me to get up and go take a bath, where he will also happily follow along, sit on the side of the tub & cry for water until I use the shower sprayer to allow him to have a drink.   Remember that I mentioned he was a ‘little’ spoiled?  Perfect example!

What about you?   Do you like pets? Do you have one?   What do you prefer and why?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Day 79- 100 Happy Days

February 10th, 2015

79Another constant in my life –   that continues to hold true-  Even right now as I look down on him and see him snoozing beside me.

On this day-  my happy shared was-

The many positions how Mister M. sleeps always makes me smile.

Day 42- 100 Happy Days

October 23rd, 2014

42The many faces of Mister Mistoffelees.   For those of you who haven’t met Mister M.  He’s a seal bi-colored Ragdoll cat and the love of my kitty life-    He’s a joy to me on SO many levels.  He is my shadow, my constant companion and sidekick.  He’s hilarious- and he is clearly the king of this castle.

Happy doesn’t begin to describe how he makes me.   He’s 9 years old this year, but continues to bring me so much happiness..  Love him dearly-   Pets aren’t ‘just’ animals, they’re members of the family.

Answer to Shedding Woes

January 13th, 2014

furminatorBack during the holidays, I answered a prize question that our vet asked on their Facebook page, and won a gift card to our local pet store.   At the time, I planned to use it get a little toy for both JJ and Mister M. for their Christmas stockings, but I ended up being so busy with work that Christmas came and went without ever doing that.

One day I was reading posts on my favorite phone app. (Happier), and someone mentioned that they’d purchased the Furminator to help with keeping their pets groomed.     Several other people gave rave reviews about it, and since I’d never heard of the Furminator, I decided to do a little Internet browsing.

I did quite a bit of reading and research, and everything I saw was positive.   From the information, I decided to price them, and even though they were not ‘inexpensive’  (around 40.00 each), I knew that if it would help with Mister M.’s horrible shedding during the Spring and Summer months, that it would be a Godsend.

Then Marcel reminded me that we still had the gift card to use, and that if the pet store carried the Furminator, that it would save us about half on the price.   Again, back to the computer- only this time to see if the website carried them.   They did, and after a quick call to our local pet store to confirm they had one in stock- we ran out and picked it up.

Even though Mister M. doesn’t shed ‘as bad’ during the winter months, I was literally blown away at just how much hair it pulled from him, so I know this is going to be a great tool in keeping him groomed throughout the year.     I love discoveries like this, and love sharing them even more, so if you have a pet who has long hair- or who sheds, the Furminator could be an answer to your prayers.

Has Monday Written ALL Over It

September 17th, 2012

For some reason, in spite of being really tired- I couldn’t seem to stay asleep last night.  I would drift off into dreamland only to wake up a half hour later wide awake.    This process continued throughout the night until about 6, when I had two hours left to sleep.    I then fell into an uninturrupted sleep until the alarm went off and jolted me out of bed.

Marcel had a meeting this morning, which meant us being up at 8 after me not getting to bed at times I’d rather not mention.  (Let’s just leave it at- it was after midnight.)    I had my morning two cups of coffee and my allergy medication thinking that would give me a kick start, but two hours later and I was still craving the bed.    I switched to green tea with mint thinking that would make a difference, and at some point had another coffee.   Still, nothing has seemed to get those engines revving today.

As you can see from the photographs, Mister Mistoffelees is also having one of those lazy Monday’s.   I actually felt bad about it for a while- thinking of all the things I needed to be getting done and part of me was saying- “Just take a day of ‘real’ rest.”       Eventually I did ignore my own inner-voice (Note to self:  NEVER do this!!) and set about on various tasks-  all of which went wrong..  very wrong.     It was one tiny mishap after another, but yet a confirmation that I definitely am supposed to be taking it easy today, so now I’m listening (at least somewhat-  I still managed to get some cleaning done, and do have some quick baking I’d like to do).

JJ is also staring at me, probably wondering at what point I’m going to take him out for his doggie walk- to do his doggie-do, but that will come all in good time.

In the meantime- I’ll continue to resist the urge to crawl into bed for an afternoon cat-nap (no pun intended) and slowly putter around getting the little things done.   After all- the little things add up to be big things, right?   Right!

One great thing is- it’s an absolutely gorgeous sunny day and Fall is upon us-  those are things to celebrate!   That and our vacation is coming up shortly and I can’t wait!

Pretty Kitty and Other “BUSYness”

September 10th, 2012

Things have been pretty busy around here between cupcakes, exercise,  social engagements and BBQ’s- so my presence here has been lax to say the least.    It’s the beginning of a new week, and with that new week I’m going to try to spend more time blogging.

There have been many times where I have something I’d like to share- but by the time I get the chance to share it here- I’ve lost the ‘mo jo’ so-to-speak.    I now have WP platform on all my ‘gadgets’- so no excuses not to be a little more social in this space.

This past Saturday I was having a break from ‘busyness’ and I noticed the always amazing Mister Mistoffelees sitting close to my feet.    The afternoon lighting was great, so I actually managed to grab my iPhone and take a quick shot before he headed off again to some new adventure.    I love the way it turned out-  and may even have it printed.

This week is also shaping up to be a busy one-  but I’m looking forward to it.   We had an amazing Indian Summer weekend and after today the temps are supposed to take a nose-dive, but that just means more favorable weather to spend walking- as long as it isn’t raining.

What’s happening in your corner of the world?

Introducing Big Foot

August 20th, 2012

It has been toasty warm here in the land of Never and the 4-legged members of the family have found themselves moving as little as possible to keep cool.  (Pretty much like us 2-legged members).

The other day I was buzzing around the house and there was Mister M. stretched out on the chair snoozing away.   I grabbed the iPhone and he woke up when I got close to him- but thankfully he didn’t move before I got the shot.  Moments after that he went right back to sleep and stayed there for several hours.

In other news- the ‘official’ countdown til vacation has started and I’m ready!  I have a lot to do in the meantime- and a few get aways to enjoy but I’m excited.  It will be here before we know it!
