Can’t Make Everyone Happy …

March 22nd, 2009

Dinner at my mom-in-laws was delish.  She made a sort of fried rice, but in a healthier manner.  It still had white rice in it, so I was pretty cautious about my portion, but it was delicious.

During dinner, I think I offended my mother-in-law, but I guess those things happen sometimes.  It certainly wasn’t intentional, but I could tell her blood was boiling, until she eventually got things the way she wanted anyway.

Marcel was talking about us getting tickets to go to see his favorite soccer team play sometime in April, and she jumped in, all excited saying that she wanted to buy him a ticket.  She didn’t know that I was going, but she asked me if I thought it was ok, and I told her that no, it wasn’t ok, because the tickets were a gift from me, for Marcel for our wedding anniversary, that I’d asked him to choose the game he wanted to see, and he finally found one that he wants to attend, that our schedules also allow.

I could see on her fact that she DID NOT like the fact that it was something that he and I had already planned. She didn’t say anything else about it, but I could tell she was steaming.

A little later, when I’d gone to the kitchen, she cornered me in there, told Marcel to come, and then told us that she had been blessed recently, and she really wanted to do something for Marcel.   When she found out I was going, she looked a little surprised, and made the comment about me not liking soccer.   Marcel piped in and said that I love it live, I just don’t like it on the television, but it’s that way with all sports for me.  B-O-R-I-N-G!

Anyway, she kept insisting and I finally said, “OK, you can pay for one of the tickets if you’d like”.   I figured it would not only make her happy, but the amount that we save on not having to purchase the extra ticket, will pay for our dinner out that evening, because Marcel has already promised me dinner out.

Now, lets just hope that we can get the seats we are hoping for.  They go on sale Wednesday morning.

At least my mom-in-law is happy with me again.. for the moment anyway haha  Gotta love her.

    Glad you enjoyed dinner!

Sounds like a touchy situation turned into a win-win situation. It is too bad that these kinds of situations that make everyone tense can be contrived from misunderstandings that need not be a big deal. Glad everything was sorted out with a happy ending while you were still there.

So, in the end it turned out to be a win-win, but OH what a journey to get there! All’s well that ends well, and like you said, the money spent on that ticket can now be your dinner out. Whew!
I’m just like you in that I can’t stand watching sports on TV, but when it’s live, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game. (heehee, sorry, I couldn’t resist). Tris and I were just talking about that last night, actually.
