Anniversary Cake

January 21st, 2010

A few days ago, Marcel mentioned that he wanted tickets to see his favorite team play one of their rivals a few days after our anniversary and before Valentine’s Day. I’ve really been working towards my goal to save more money this year, and I will be the first to admit that I really wasn’t keen on the idea of spending so much money for tickets to a ball game. He told me that he’d be happy with seats in an upper level, which are obviously less expensive, so I figured that would be a gift that I knew would make him happy. Unfortunately, the tickets went on sale the beginning of January and there were no upper level seats left, or any two seats in the more expensive areas for us to sit next to each other, but we could sit three rows apart. Something about that really didn’t appeal to me.

I thumbed through the site, and saw that there were extra seats added in a special section for this particular game, which included front row seats beside each other at the half way mark. The price is the same price I was trying to avoid paying in the first place, but the look on Marcel’s face was well worth it.

We generally go out for dinner on our anniversary, but yesterday I was browsing recipes and I came across a chocolate cake recipe that was to die for. It’s a little complicated, but it looks so good that I think I’m going to make it. It also means I’ll be attempting ganache for the first time ever, but I’m sure it can’t be that difficult, can it? If it is half as good as it looks, it may be my new ‘go to’ chocolate cake, although it would be hard pressed to be the Chocolate Lane cake that I’ve been making since I was a little girl. After all, it did win me first place at the fair one year and the spotlight for being the best of the best. Yes, it really is THAT good.

Once I make the cake, I’ll share pictures and the recipe. I’m definitely curious about this one, and as with most chocolate cakes, it’s not for the diet conscious.
