It’s Official!

June 30th, 2010

I’m pregnant!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. That isn’t true though. I’m not pregnant and since I’m knocking on the door of the fabulous ‘young’ age of 43, I think that ship has sailed without me. It’s all good though. I know that everything has a purpose and since I have a feline and canine (and sometimes a husband) that are like having children, I think I have my hands full just as things are.

The OFFICIAL part is that our cruise is booked. I called my cruise guy Steven earlier today and made it official. I’m known in my little family circle as the ‘tour guide’, so when it comes to making reservations and doing the research for travel; I’m your girl. I actually like it, and because I love learning new things and planning fun things to do, this makes it one big adventure.

Next up on the cruise agenda will be planning the excursions while in Cozumel. We are going to swim with the dolphins, plus mom and I are wanting to spend some time on a zip line. It’s something mom has always wanted to do, and in recent years, I’ve wanted to do it as well, so we’re going to go for it as long as our excursions don’t overlap. I’m sure we can swing it though. I’m sure while mom and I are zipping around through the sky, that diddy, Desere and Marcel will be lounging on the beach or maybe even taking pictures of me and mom screaming as we fly through the air.

I’m excited!!!

I have a lot to talk about, but not a lot of time. I’ve got to be up VERY early in the morning and I have a lot to do before bed tonight.

More soon…. Don’t Forget this week’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s.

Cruisin’

June 29th, 2010

Desere just left a few minutes ago and after a walk with JJ, several cups of coffee and conversation, I decided to call our new cruise coordinator and discuss our options for the cruise we are planning for December. His name is Steven and we talked on the phone for quite some time and he was great about answering the few questions that I did have. I scribbled down some information that at one point Desere tried to read, but I think she gave up after looking at what my chickenscratch looks like when I’m taking notes.

Now I have conveyed the information to everyone and if diddy is in agreement then I’ll be making the reservation tomorrow. As it looks now- we’ll be mid-ship with a ocean view on the Empress deck- which is the same deck as guest services, Internet and the atrium. As much as I’ll be tempted to log in and check my email and write a journal entry, I probably will resist, although I can’t make any promises. :)

I’m just looking forward to the vacation and once this is planned, we’ll wait and see how things develop with the Florida trip. There are still a lot of factors that will determine that one, but I’ve been browsing the Disney site getting ideas.

Right now, it’s time to turn off the vacation brain and relax in front of the television.

24 Hours in a Day

June 28th, 2010

Lately I’m finding that even though the long summer days are officially here and it doesn’t get dark until around 10, I’m still finding it difficult to get everything done that I’d like to accomplish in a day. I think, if I’d stuck to my original schedule of doing things that I probably wouldn’t have any problems, but what I’ve noticed is that now that the days are longer, I’ve added to my ‘to do’ lists and I’ve ended up getting in bed far later than I would have normally done.

So, this leaves me with the decision to evaluate things and make a few modifications. The training for the 5k race is early mornings, especially with the warm weather being what it is. I usually spend the mornings doing other things in the house so that I’ll be done with household things before it’s time for me to work in the afternoons. Since I am one of those people who refuse to stand in the kitchen when it’s warm, I’ve found that I’m getting dinner done in the morning so that it can be easily reheated in the evening when it’s time for dinner. That has also knocked my regular routine out of whack, and it leaves me feeling a little off kilter on some days.

In the next few days, I’ll spend some time thinking about the changes I need to make and adjust my schedule accordingly. Even though there are more hours of daylight- I’ve found that no matter how you slice it- there are still only 24 hours in a day.

A Little Late- (5 O’ Clock Friday Submissions)

June 28th, 2010

Y’all forgive me for being a little late with this past week’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s submissions.   It was a crazy weekend and I spent part of it with a migraine so needless to say, it wasn’t the most ideal weekend ever.    I’m assuming that the next couple of weekends are going to be much better since we have a BBQ that I’ve been planning for quite some time coming up, plus my birthday is just around the corner, which means celebration time, but I digress.

The picture to your left was taken by none other than my dear mommy.   She is standing at the driveway that goes into their yard, looking back across their property.   The dirt represents where the through-road used to be.   Several years ago the county decided they wanted to widen and move the road, so they worked out some sort of deal with my parents, since they owned property on both sides of the road.        You can see the road to the left of the picture.      The county is getting ready to put a fence down the property line where the old road used to be and I know this is something that my parents are ready for.     My poor dad and Mitch (their only nearby neighbor) have been working hard to not only keep the dirt from washing away that the county put in (Those county guys aren’t the best planners), but they are also trying to keep the 4-wheelers out of there and those rednecks to decide to come along and hunt deer illegally.      It is quite the adventure when we are at my parents during hunting season, and the game warden definitely earns his pay from their neighborhood alone.

In additon to mom’s submission, my friend A. also provided us with yet another gorgeous picture, but in order to see it, you’ll need to visit Backroads Photo Blog, which is where she has that along with many other wonderful photos and stories to share. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed, I can assure you.

If any of you have submissions but forgot to make them, please feel free to send them in to lori at this website (simplywizardress.com). I will be happy to share them, and feel free to pass this on to your other friends if you’d like, or even participate yourself. If you are a blogger and share it on your blog, let me know so I can link you.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s

June 25th, 2010

This afternoon when it became time for 5 O’ Clock Friday’s, I was actually getting dinner ready, so I didn’t get a chance to take a shot until a little later.  In fact, I got carried away with dinner and when eating dessert,  I happened to think about being a little late, so I used the “eye” and took these couple of shots.

I bought this watermelon today.   The guy at the store was offering samples, and it was so delicious that I couldn’ t resist.   Marcel is not a huge fan of watermelon, which means that I’ll probably be the one to end up eating most of it.   I don’t mind.

I ate several pieces for dessert, and there is a HUGE bowl left over that I’m sure I’ll consume over the  next couple of days.   It isn’t a melon from the Gulf Coast, but instead, a melon from Spain.  It looks to me like they know how to grow them there as well.

In spite of it’s small seeds, this watermelon is actually considered to be seedless, so it’s easy to eat the seeds.   They are good and in fact, I’m thinking that maybe I should have another piece or two before I jump in a bath to cool off.     In case you haven’t heard, we are having a heat wave. :)

For everyone else-  Please feel free to send your 5 O’ Clock Friday’s pictures my way.   Either email them to me at lori in care of this website (simplywizardress.com) or link them from your blog and let me know so I can check it out, plus, so I can share it with others.   Plus feel free to pass the word about 5 O’ Clock Friday’s.  After all, the more the merrier in terms of participation.  It’s also fun to see what people are doing at 5 on any given day, especially on Friday- which is the beginning to our weekends.

Sunglasses for Marcel

June 25th, 2010

A few days ago we were in the car and poor Marcel put on his sunglasses and part of the arm fell off. I guess that’s what you call that thing that extends out from the actual glass part itself and goes behind your ear. It broke off about half way and he was not a happy camper. In fact, since then he’s been wearing them in the car with half the arm missing. My favorite guy only wears sunglasses in the car, unlike me, who wears them everywhere I go, rain or shine. I promised him a pair of Ray Bans so we are going to have to find the right pair and then I’ll order them. I teasedhim the other day and asked if I should also plan to order him a pair of prescription eyeglasses as well since he ran through a yellow light, which turned red about the time we got under it. I said that surely he must need glasses if he didn’t see the light change. Somehow he didn’t find a lot of humor to that, yet surprisingly I did. Maybe he’ll think next time before he does that, although it’s doubtful. Either way, I’ve found some great Ray Bans, now we just need to decide which ones he wants and order them.

I Heart Great Customer Service

June 24th, 2010

Ok, earlier today I posted a picture of the other bag that I bought and mentioned that I had to tell y’all about a great thing that happened.   Here I am, finally, to do just that.   First, I do have a love of handbags.  I can’t help it and even though my mom has told me time and time again that I can only carry one at a time, I still can’t help but love them.

Last week KateSpade was having a sample sale and I came across the bag and sunglasses that I ultimately ordered.  They were a great price, and even though I saw this particular bag, I decided not to get it, since two bags were really pushing it.   Four days later, I saw that Kate was having an extra discount on the last day of the sale, which meant an additional 20%.   This time, I couldn’t resist the bag on your left.   I ordered it and with the extra 20% it was practically a steal.

Then I started thinking and wondering about the other two items I’d ordered.  Even though I’d already received them, I decided it would be worth it to give customer service a call and see if they would actually be willing to give me the extra 20% off the items I’d ordered. The very helpful customer service said there was no problem and asked for the code and gave me some information about the credit card processing and that was that. It was THAT simple and I saved quite a bit of money, simply by making a phone call. I had nothing to lose, and ended up gaining quite a savings on top of the one I’d already received. Thanks Kate. That’s what I call customer service.

Honk If You Love….

June 24th, 2010

Since I made this image a thumbnail- you can’t see the full text but it says- “Honk if you love Jesus.  Text while driving if you want to meet him.”  (Click image for full sized view).

This is actually something that is going around on Facebook and people are encouraging others to share on their ‘walls’.    The truth of the matter is, as much as I agree with this statement and am against texting and driving, I couldn’t bring myself to add it to my wall to share with the world.

The reason why is because I have several friends who lost someone dear to them several weeks ago in a car accident and that’s exactly what the girl was doing- texting and driving.   She swerved into the other lane and ended up hitting a dump truck head on and was killed.    As much as I believe that this sign is true- I felt as though it would be insensitive to post it on my Facebook and since none of them read this space, I decided that here would be a better forum to share.

Oprah has a campaign right now where she is asking people to sign a “No Phone Zone” contract stating that you won’t use your phone at all while in the car.    I haven’t signed it, but then my phone is programmed into the bluetooth in our car so that when my “eye” rings, it automatically mutes the radio and I can talk to the person over the car speakers.  It’s very cool if I must say so myself, and you can keep on driving.   With that being said-    Please don’t text and drive, no matter how multi-talented you think you are-   it’s just an accident waiting to happen.

Why Fix…

June 24th, 2010

Marcel took a nap a little earlier and when he woke up, he mentioned to me that he was thinking about us switching car insurance companies. I’m one of those people who used the same car insurance company since I first started driving, so it surprised me when he said that he was thinking about changing if he could find someone better by using carinsurancelist.com. We didn’t discuss it much because he headed off to his sisters to watch the World Cup, but you can be sure that the moment I have a chance, I’m going to sit down and talk to him about why he possibly wants to switch. There’s definitely nothing wrong with wanting to compare prices and services, but I always think in terms of why fix what isn’t broken.

Run Forest Run!

June 24th, 2010

Some of you may not know this- but earlier this week I started my training to run a 5k race. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, but I’d been spending more time talking about it as opposed to doing it, and I figured it was time to put my money where my mouth is. I have to admit that even though I feel as though I’m in pretty good shape, running is an entirely different ball game than using the elliptical. Who knew? I figure I don’t ever have to think about a top diet pill, as long as I keep on doing like Forrest Gump and RUN. Tomorrow is my third and final day for this weeks training. I’ll do it in the morning so I can get it out of the way. I think that’s the best option, plus it boosts my energy for the entire day.
