Great For Travelers (FREE Guides to Major Cities)

April 20th, 2010

I know I usually bring y’all great deals on “Friday’s – hence Freebie Friday’s”, but this deal won’t be here on Friday, so I need to share it now. Plus, it’s so great that I wouldn’t have waited until Friday anyway.

This morning my friend Suzy pointed out a really great deal for those of us (such as myself) who are owners of ‘eye’ series (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad). Most of us have heard of the Lonely Planet Guides… and their city guides are usually priced around $16.00 each BUT because of the volcano erupting in Iceland and SO many people finding themselves stranded in European cities that they hadn’t anticipated being stranded in, the GENEROUS people at Lonely Planet have decided to allow people to download these applications GRATIS (That’s FREE) until April 22, 2010 (That’s Thursday).

The guide’s are technically meant for those who are stranded, but since they can’t distinguish who is stranded and who isn’t- they’re open for everyone to download (Until Thursday the 22nd)Lonely Planet City Guide to Amsterdam

Lonely Planet City Guide to Barcelona

Lonely Planet City Guide to Berlin

Lonely Planet City Guide to Copenhagen

Lonely Planet City Guide to Istanbul

Lonely Planet City Guide to London

Lonely Planet City Guide to Moscow

Lonely Planet City Guide to Munich

Lonely Planet City Guide to Paris

Lonely Planet City Guide to Rome

Lonely Planet City Guide to Stockholm

Lonely Planet City Guide to Vienna

I wouldn’t wait to download these- I doubt there is a better bargain out there this week, plus this is probably the best thing to come out of the volcano erupting in Iceland. Thanks Suzy for passing on the information. I REALLY appreciate it!

Friday Freebies- (Coffee Mate Coupons)

April 9th, 2010

Have you ever noticed that when you’re starving you tend to get emails with recipes for the most fattening things? I was just sitting here eating one of my new favorite whole grain crackers with a little peanut butter smeared on top when I opened my email to find several recipes for things like peanut butter chocolate cereal bars and double ginger coffee cake. Needless to say, they looked much better than the cracker I was eating at that particular moment.

Anyway, I thought I’d share with y’all a coupon for Coffee-Mate this week since it happens to be one of my favorite ‘treats’. I love the various flavors and how it changes my coffee into a little dessert treat, plus remember that it can also be used for your favorite recipes. There are two coupons on the page- one for 75 cents off and the other is for buy one get one free of the stick packs. I happen to love those, since it makes it easy to have French Vanilla Coffee-Mate with me everywhere I go.

If you see any ‘freebies’ that you’d like to share, send em my way. I love myself a good bargain.

Friday Freebies- (Yummy Goodness from Starbucks)

March 19th, 2010

Today’s Friday Freebie is something after my own heart and includes a trip to Starbucks. Who doesn’t love free stuff, but when free stuff includes something free from Starbucks, it’s something that makes many of us ready to jump in our cars and head to the nearest location.

Before you do that, you need to know a few things- First, you have to buy your favorite Starbucks beverage to get anything free. (I know, that’s such a chore isn’t it?)

Second, you’ll need to make sure that you show up on the correct date, which happens to be March 23rd (Tuesday).

Third, you’ll need to print out this coupon and take it with you so that you can claim your freebie.

By now you may be wondering what your freebie is- Well it’s a free pastry. So, in addition to getting your favorite cup of java, you’ll also get one of those delicious looking pastrys that you are always drooling over when you’re ordering your coffee. Oh, and did I mention the pastry is free?

*details about Free Pastry Day can be found on the coupon*

Get Your FREE Pancakes

February 22nd, 2010

Even though it isn’t Friday, I thought I’d start your week off with something free. Pancakes to be exact. Tomorrow is National Pancake Day, and while I never knew there was such a day, apparently there is and what better way to celebrate National Pancake Day than to eat pancakes. Right? Well if eating pancakes on Pancake Day wasn’t enough, how about FREE pancakes on Pancake Day? That sounds even better to me and apparently it does to IHOP (International House of Pancakes) as well.

Pull out your agendas, your ‘eye’ phones, or whatever smart phone you’re using, your calendar, a pen and the back of your hand and make a note of this date: February 23, 2010 (That’s tomorrow) from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. the IHOP in your area is giving away to EVERY customer a free short stack order of pancakes. They are absolutely free, but in return they hope ( you aren’t required ) that you will donate to the Childrens Miracle Network and help them raise money to support this wonderful charity.

If you aren’t sure where the IHOP is in your area, visit this website for more details and information.

Oh, and while you’re ate it, eat one of those pancakes for me, since I won’t be indulging.

Friday “Freebie” Tips

February 19th, 2010

Even though I don’t have anything free to offer today in terms of products, I do have a few free tips that I received from one of my really good friends. Since I haven’t tested them all, I can’t tell you whether they actually work or not, but I do plan to put a few of them to the test in the next weeks.

My dinner is cooking (baked chicken breast, green beans, and new potatoes) and as soon as it’s done, I’m going to dig in. I’m actually pretty hungry, since the edamame that I had for lunch is long gone.

Anyway, on to the tips:

  • When you bring fresh bananas home from the store, take them apart.  If you leave them connected at the stem, they will ripen faster.
  • Store open chunks of cheese wrapped in aluminum foil.  It will stay fresh longer and won’t mold.  (I hear the same will work by placing a sugar cube in a cheese container.)
  • Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.  Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
  • Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef.  It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking. (I’m not sure about this one- but I’m just reporting what I read.)
  • To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of  spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up. (I’ve done this many times and it is absoutely true.)
  • For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt   Andes  mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.  (This just sounds like pure heaven and would probably be great if snickers or other candy bars were melted over the top.)

I have more of these little tips, but I’ll save them until next Friday.  If you have any handy tips you’d like to share, please do and I’ll add them on my blog.

Friday Freebies & Favorites

August 14th, 2009

Another week has rolled around, and it’s time for this weeks “Friday Freebies”. This week I happen to have one of my all-time favorites to share, which means that not only are you getting ‘freebies’, but you’re also finding out one of my all-time favorites in the process.

This weeks ‘freebies’ are for those of you who are ‘coffee-lovers’. As you know, I’ve been having a love affair with coffee for quite some time, my favorite coffee being Illy, followed by Lavazza, and Simon Levelt’s “Vienna Mixture” as a close third. Don’t get me wrong, I love other coffee as well- when I’m home, I drink 8′oClock coffee freshly ground by none other than my very own diddy, and it’s also fantastic, but so far- nothing I’ve had beats my ‘top three’.

As we all know, coffee definitely needs a perfect ‘mate’ (for those who don’t take theirs black), and for me, that mate is none other than “Coffee-Mate” creamers. You can find them almost everywhere in both liquid and powdered form, and since I’m on their mailing list AND a member of their “Brew Crew”, I get to vote on new flavors and hear about some of the new flavors before they hit the shelves in our local supermarkets.

Coffee-Mate has recently introduced two new flavors from their “World Cafe” collection- Parisian Almond Creme and Belgian Chocolate Toffee. I haven’t had the opportunity to try them yet, but you can be rest assured that I will. The sound of both of those flavors have my mouth watering.

In honor of the new flavors, AND in honor of their new ‘take everywhere’ Stick Packs, Coffee-Mate is offering special savings coupons on their website, plus if you sign up, all the latest will be delivered to your inbox, including the latest promotions and coupons.

Oh, and before I share the link to the coupons, I HAVE tried the Stick Packs, and they are fantastic. They are great for vacation, or for slipping into your purse or pocket to add to your coffee at work, or even when you are out-and-about.

If you try the new flavors before I do, let me know how you like them. I’m convinced they’ll be great.

Oh, and while I’m at it- what’s YOUR favorite Coffee-Mate flavor??

This weeks Coupons from Coffee-Mate.

(You will have to install coupon printing software to your computer in order to receive the coupons)

If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, then you know I’ve shared this ‘freebie’ before, but it’s SO good, it’s worth repeating. After all, who doesn’t love ‘free chocolate’?

I’ve signed up for this before, AND received my free chocolate. The company emails you, and actually encourages you to get ‘more’ free chocolate, so if they ask, I’m listening- F-R-E-E Chocolate..

Wishing I would ‘zip it’ and just give you the link?

Your wish is my command- get your own free chocolate TODAY by clicking HERE. Remember quantities are limited, so don’t wait. They are only giving away 200,000 bars today and once those are gone, you’ll have to wait until next Friday, so HURRY!

Friday Freebie-

July 31st, 2009

As you know, when I come across what I consider to be a ‘great find’, I love to share them with y’all. On top of that, since I got my iPhone earlier this year, I have been doing nothing but raving about how fantastic I think it is. The phone alone was enough to sell me after using it, but the applications have me hooked. I’m constantly searching and downloading applications I come acrosss that I think can be not only beneficial to me, but to those I love.

This weeks ‘goldmine find’ is the iphone apartment app. You may be wondering if I’m in the market for an apartment, and the truth is, I’m not, but someone who is very near and dear to me is, so when I came across the application, I thought I’d check it out and see how it works, and it’s amazing.

When you first install the program and open the application, it will ask to use the GPS for your current location. Choose to allow it or not, that’s up to you. When the program opens, you have the option to search the City and State of the area in which you are searching. I chose Mobile, Alabama for my search area, because the person I’m searching for will be living in that area. There is also an option to use search filters, which will filter results of preferences set by you for -rental price, bedrooms, bathrooms, pet allowances.. etc.

The search immediately finds everything that meets your criteria in the area, including (in most cases) photos of the rental home or apartment. There is generally also a description about the property and a little about the area, including a ‘hot link’ to call the properties directly to answer any questions that a person may have.
Another option that I loved, is you can check availability with the click of a button and with the input of a few bits of information, such as your projected move date, telephone number and questions.

If you find a property or several that you are interested in, but aren’t sure yet, there’s an option to add the property to your ‘favorites’, for easy access the following time you open the application, plus you can email to a friend (which in my case is what I’ll be doing), and create notes about the particular properties that you’d like to either ask the leasing agent, or general information that you don’t want to forget.

I think this application is a ‘MUST HAVE’ for anyone who is considering renting or leasing anytime in the near future. I recommend it even if you aren’t, because you never know when one of your family member or friends are moving and need a little help, and I can see where this application can literally save HOURS of search time when looking for a new home.

Plus, it’s FREE!!! Check it out, and let me know what you think.
