5 O’ Clock Friday’s Submission (Saving Lives)

September 5th, 2010

Mom’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s picture is actually a picture of herself.   It all started when she sent me the 5 O’ Clock Friday’s picture of the blood mobile.  I called her and she was actually sitting in the chair you see here, probably in a very similar position.   I told her I didn’t want to blood mobile, but instead I would like a picture of HER giving blood.

The nurse was so excited to take the picture and once mom and I got off the phone, she sent it my way.  They titled the picture ‘saving lives’ and that’s exactly what they’re doing.  Diddy also gave blood and they possibly saved two lives that day.      I like this picture because it not only shows mom, but it also is a great 5 O’ Clock Friday’s picture that carries the message of how important it is to be a blood donor.

Thanks mom-  and thanks nurse who helped and actually took the picture.

In addition, my very sweet and crafty friend Kimmie also shared her 5 O’ Clock Friday’s photo, but she did it via her blog titled, Misadventures of Mub. She’s very creative and I always leave her blog feeling inspired, so you should definitely check her out.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s

September 5th, 2010

I’m a little late sharing this week’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s submission. Sorry about that-  I didn’t turn my computer on yesterday and spent most of the day catching up on a few things around here that was not done when I was sick.  I’m still not 100%, but I’m getting there and that’s the main thing.   The days are getting cooler and I absolutely love this time of the year, so I hope this tiredness wears off soon.  Maybe then I’ll feel like getting up at a decent hour in the mornings, instead of sleeping part of my day away.

Some of you may remember my film grain phase last summer.   I still love the look and feel of the film grain and decided to bring it back this week.

If you would like to participate in 5 O’ Clock Friday’s- we’d love to have you.  Take a picture at 5 on friday (could be a.m. or p.m) and then either post it to your blog if you’re a blogger (let me know so I can link you from here) or email me the picture at lori in care of this website (simplywizardress.com) and I’ll share it here along with anything you would like to share.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s Submission

September 1st, 2010

When I woke up this morning, I was greeted with this gorgeous picture on my Facebook wall from my friend A. This was the beautiful picture that she took on Friday, but life had taken her in different directions and she didn’t get a chance to share until yesterday. I love the colors of the flower and if I’d seen it, I would have definitely been drawn to photograph it as well. Reds and yellows always seem to draw me in- not just in flowers, but also in virtually everything.

A. has a great photo blog called Backroads Photo Blog and if you’d like to see some great photographs of Anywhere, USA- you should definitely check her out. Thanks A. for sharing a piece of your Friday with us.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s- Submission

September 1st, 2010

I’ve actually had this submission from last weeks 5 O’ Clock Friday’s in my mailbox, but because I wasn’t feeling well and no spending that much time on the computer, it fell to the wayside until today.

Mom took this on her way home from work on Friday and as you can see the drops on the windshield tell a tale of what the weather has been like in Southern Mississippi as of late- wet, wet, wet.

Today is Wednesday, which means that this coming weeks 5 O’ Clock Friday is just around the corner.   Start thinking now and I’d love to see your submissions to see what was happening in your life around 5 on Friday.  Send the entries to lori (in care of this website- simplywizardress.com), feature it on your blog so I can link back to your entry, post it on my Facebook wall or whatever will get my attention.

Small Gestures

August 28th, 2010

Last weekend we invited Marcel’s nieces to stop in for a little visit.   The reason was because now that I have my new iPhone, I no longer need my old Nokia so thought maybe one of them would like to have it.   I try to always have a back up phone just in case something happens with the one I am using.

Marcel’s oldest niece decided she’d like to have the phone and I was more than happy to hand it over to her.   It was in great shape without any scratches, so I gave her the box and all the paperwork and they were on their way.

Sometime earlier this week I was getting dinner ready and there was a knock on the door.   It was Marcel’s niece and she dropped off a bouquet of sunflowers.   She said it was as a thank you for me giving her the phone.    She’s 15 years old and that small gesture was a day brightener.

It is the smallest gestures that make the biggest difference.      What kind of difference are you making today in the life of another?

5 O’ Clock Friday’s

August 27th, 2010

After I finished submitting Kimmie’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s submission, I had to make a mad dash to the kitchen to stir my soup before the noodles stuck to the bottom of the pan. While on my way back, I grabbed my iPhone from the charger so I could share with you the picture that I took today around 5. I was actually working during that time and Mister M. was sleeping soundly beside me. He was so sweet and peaceful that I couldn’t help but think he’d make the ‘purr’fect subject for this week’s submission.

Feel free to take a picture today at around 5 and either 1- send it to me at lori in care of this website (simplywizardress.com) or 2- upload it to your own blog and let me know and I’ll link you from here. I always love seeing what people will come up with each week.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s Submission – Part Drie (Three)

August 21st, 2010

This very cool picture of some windows in rural America was taken by my friend A.   She takes some of the most interesting pictures of out of the way places that most of us will never see.    You don’t have to take my word for it though, you can visit her at Backroads Photo Blog.    I’m sure y’all remember her other submissions of her adorable son, J.

One of the things I love about her blog is that she purposely takes the back roads when she’s traveling from point A to B (which she does often) so she can see the hidden treasures that the United States has to offer.   Even though Interstate roads may get you there faster; I think we can all agree it isn’t the most scenic route.

I admire the fact that in this world of instant gratification and always being in a hurry that A. intentionally takes the road less traveled and enjoys the process of the journey as opposed to focusing on the destination.    I think that’s a lesson we could all learn.   Thanks A.  for your submission, and also for your perspective on life.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s Submission Part Deaux

August 21st, 2010

This week I was happy to open my email and see that we have a new submission to 5 O’ Clock Friday’s.   This week my friend India sent in three pictures of her boys-  Brooks and Mark Wesley playing trampoline basketball.

Now I have to say that I have never heard of trampoline basketball, but after looking at these pictures, I couldn’t help but have the urge to want to try.  It looks like a LOT of fun.    I wonder if they’d let me play?

Thanks so much India for sharing these fun pictures of the boys-  I  remember when they were little guy’s and it’s hard to believe that they’re so big now.   Time certainly flies.

If y’all want to share your own 5 O’ Clock Friday’s pictures, it definitely isn’t too late.   If you’ve put them on your own blog, let me know and I’ll link you- otherwise- feel free to send them to me at lori (at) this website (simplywizardress.com).    It’s always fun to see what people are doing around the globe when 5 strikes.

Thanks again India for sharing the pictures and I hope to see more in the future.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s Submission

August 21st, 2010

This week we actually have several 5 O’ Clock Friday’s  submissions (so far) and rather than put them all in one entry, I’ve decided to divide them up per submission.

This one is from mom and she called it “Don’t Fence Me In”.   This is at the edge of their property line, and to the left of the new fence is where the road used to be.   To the right, you can see where the road is now.

Mom and diddy actually owned the strip of land between where the old road was and where the new one is, so when the county came through and wanted to build a road, they struck up a deal.     They gave the county the piece of land they needed for the road, but part of the agreement was that they would put up a fence keeping people from tresspassing on the old road area.

What you can’t see is that to the left of the treeline is a field, and in that field deer like to roam.      They have a huge problem with redneck ‘illegal’ hunters trespassing and hunting the deer at night, and they think the old road is the perfect place to zip along on their 4-wheeler’s.     Now that the fence is finally up- maybe, just maybe things will be quieter around the homestead this hunting season.    It certainly proves for some interesting tales.

5 O’ Clock Friday’s (No Surprise Here)

August 20th, 2010

It should come as no surprise to anyone who read this space that this week’s 5 O’ Clock Friday’s was a picture of none other than my new beloved iPhone 4.   I wrote earlier about picking it up yesterday and the more I use it, the more I love it.

It isn’t too late to take your own pictures for 5 O’ Clock Friday’s and get them submitted to me via email at lori (@) this website (simplywizardress.com).  I’ll then share them here or if you have your own blog and have added the picture there- let me know and I’ll link to you so I can see it, and everyone else can as well.
