On location (From the Car)

September 28th, 2011

We are on the road again today- this time headed North in Holland towards one of the Dutch concentration camps used during WW 2. There are several here and we hope to have the chance to see a few of them.

I am quite certain that I’ll get emotional just being in a space where so much suffering went on, but I believe it’s important to remember and to honor those who lost so much during that horrific time.

We are in the car driving towards our destination and I have to say that the weather couldn’t be more perfect.

Indian Summer weather at its finest.

(On Location) From the Train

July 22nd, 2011

Friday, glorious Friday. Can you believe that there is ONE more Friday in this month and we will be kissing it goodbye and welcoming August? I can’t. It seems like just a few days ago we were celebrating the 4th, and now here we are almost three weeks later. I guess that old saying is true that time flies when your having fun and I definitely am.

Today finds me taking a lone train ride into the city. I actually don’t mind riding alone as it gives me time to think, to reflect and also to tap out a few words here- in this small space on this vast place we call cyberspace.

I have been thinking quite a bit lately at just what a gift the Internet is. It makes it possible for us to virtually go anywhere in the world and we can find out about just about anything we ever wanted to know (and some things we didn’t).

It has connected me to some truly wonderful people an reconnected me to some whom mean the world to me. My gratitude is beyond measure.

I would hug Mark Zuckerburg if I could for giving us Facebook, Steve Jobs for giving us Apple and Bill Gates for giving us Windows. In this day and age where would we be without technology?

As the train slowly makes it way to the city, stopping at every station along our path, I can’t help but smile. I’m grateful for the people in my life and grateful for sunny days like today.

Oh and the Orange Cream Cupcakes from yesterday? They’re gone. I sent a dozen off to work with Marcel this morning and between Tom and Marcel they had four, plus Desere had one and so did I. I can see room for improvement, but they weren’t bad.

What are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they may be- make it good

Just Waitin’ on a Train (On Location)

April 28th, 2011

This morning I’m headed to meet up with friends- both old and new for an afternoon of chatter, laughter and lunch. Of course, there will be coffee AND cupcakes involved, which if you ask me are the makings of a perfect day! (Great company, coffee and cupcakes- Is there anything better?)

I met some really nice people on the first leg of my train. They were from New York and I had a great time chatting with them. I was also able to give them a few tips about the city they were visiting, which happens to be where I took this picture.

The forecast predicts rain and while some fell before I woke up this morning, as I type this the sun is streaming into the train window, not only warming my body, but also my soul.

(On Location) From the Couch

March 28th, 2011

For the first time in a while, I didn’t turn my computer on for more than five minutes today. If I hadn’t promised a friend that I’d send her a picture that she expecting, I probably wouldn’t have logged in at all.

I spent part of the day with Desere and another part of the day cooking and returning a dog toy that we bought for JJ that had a hole in it within 5 minutes of giving it to him.

Now, I’m retired to the sofa, but did want to drop a few lines. Tomorrow is also going to be a busy one but there should be more time for thoughts and updates. Right now, battery is at 12% so I’d better say bye for now.

(On Location) At the Car Dealership

June 22nd, 2010

Marcel and I are at the car dealership where we bought our car so that we can get some sort of maintenance something-or-other done. As soon as we got here, I made a quick trip to the little girl’s room while Marcel made me a cup of coffee.

In fact, as I sit here typing this, I’m sipping on a latte, compliments of the dealership. I hadn’t indulged in coffee this morning, so these two cups are just what I needed. Who knows, I may even go for a third.

As soon as Marcel sat down at the table, there was a book filled with rim options that would fit on our car. The ones he fell in love with are 450.00 PER WHEEL!! Needless to say- that is not happening. Besides, the rims we have are perfect.

My cup is empty, so time for another cup of coffee or time to walk to the store around the corner. This little adventure is only supposed to take an hour. I hope they are right. I have work to do. In the meantime- coffee.

On Location (At the Train Station)

May 3rd, 2010

I noticed immediately from the lack of teenagers at the station this morning that there is spring break this week. I did see a select few that are now on the train with me, but for the most part things are quiet.

Last night was another night of fitful sleep, but I was happy to wake up with sunshine streaming through the windows. It is chilly out this morning but I honestly didn’t notice it that much because I was too busy enjoying the sunshine, watching an elderly man attempt to walk to energetic dogs who were almost as big as he was and checking the canals to see if I could see any of the baby ducklings I’d seen at the end of last week. I didn’t. I’m hoping that simply means they are in another part of the canal and haven’t become lunch for one of the herons. They are beautiful birds but I do chase them away when I see them stalking the ducklings. I can’t help it.

I’m SO sleepy and lethargic feeling this morning and I hope it’s something a cup of coffee wil fix. If not, then maybe some time on the elliptical.

On location (Morning Train)

April 20th, 2009

Good morning from the sunny, but chilly train station.

It’s the begin of a gorgeous day here in Neverland, and I figured since the train is delayed, I could take this moment to tap out a few words.

Marcel brought me to the station this morning. I generally walk, and always enjoy the time to observe my surroundings, but with my knee still giving me problems, I figured it best not to make the trek on foot. I think it’s a nerve issue, something pinching when I walk, but I can’t be sure, so if it doesn’t correct itself- off to the doc I go.

The train should be here momentarily, so let’s see if I have a connection to send this.

*EDIT*  I actually wasn’t able to send this until much later because I couldn’t get a connection until after Bible Study, and  then it was when I was sitting in the parking lot at the grocery store.   Since I don’t have phone service on my iPhone until July, I have to beg, borrow or steal wi-fi connections, and they aren’t always available.  (Shhhh, don’t tell the unsuspecting people with unsecured wi-fi connections).

Tomorrow, Marcel and I have plans to visit the tulip fields, so maybe, just maybe I’ll be able to get a signal and share a few things from ‘on location’.
