London Calling

January 17th, 2017

IMG_3074Approximately five years ago, I made a suggestion to my best friend, S. that we go to London for my 50th birthday.   At the time- 5 years out seemed like such a long time to be thinking about a girls trip, but we half-halfheartedly talked about it and every once in a while we’d make a comment about it as a possibility.

Fast forward to current day- when the year of Lori version 5.0 has arrived and the plan is in FULL MOTION!

  • Dates Chosen.
  • Flights Booked
  • Hotel Booked
  • Birthday dinner location chosen and waiting for reservations to drop so we can make one.
  • Fun being planned!

To say that I’m excited may be the understatement of the year.  S and I have never taken an overnight girls trip together, just us, so it’s going to be a blast!

Do you have any ‘must see or eat’ places in London?  If so, I’d love to hear about it.      Since we didn’t really want to spend our time traveling back and forth from the outside of the city to the hub of everything daily-  we are staying in the middle of the action in Westminster.    My birthday dinner?  If we can get reservations-  will be at Dinner by Heston-   as in Heston Blumenthal.      I really wanted to try to get into the Fat Duck, but since it’s a little too far to travel for this trip, we’re going with the closer option at Dinner by Heston.   We are also hoping to get a few bites in at Nori.

Ooh and did I mention that S will also be celebrating a birthday while she is here?   She arrives here and the following day is her 48th.      July is going to be a month of celebrations and this girl can’t wait.

Moving Right Along

June 21st, 2016

A few more days (around a week) and this month will be one for the books. In addition, we will also be kissing the first half of this year goodbye and welcoming the last half. Really? I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun.

Our vacation ‘home’ was simply put- amazing. Not only did we celebrate two weddings, we also did a little traveling while we were ‘home’, plus we spent time in the company of people we love.

Since this trip was several weeks shorter than usual and a LOT busier, we didn’t have the opportunity to see very many people at all. I saw a few family members, but there were more that I wanted to see and didn’t get to. The same went for friends. I was unable to see everyone who was on my ‘must see’ list- because there wasn’t enough time in the day to do so.

We do have another trip planned, so next time ‘should’ allow for more visiting time and more time with people we love and admire.

We arrived home with a lot of jet lag and I jumped right into work getting ready for this upcoming weekend which is filled with a wedding I’m doing, plus an anniversary party. I’m grateful for the work and always have fun sharing what I love with others, plus blessed that I can do what I love as my occupation.

I have, however, blocked off next week as some ‘me’ time to regroup and refocus, plus to hopefully get some rest and get past the jet lag. I have quite a few things on my to-do list, which includes getting some more home improvements completed in our home.

July kicks off my birthday month- and what a fun month that is going to be!

Welcome June

May 31st, 2016

I can’t believe that we are only a few hours away from the first day of June. I know I’ve been neglecting this space, but it hasn’t been intentional. As I mentioned before, we’re home for vacation and for a very special wedding.

That special day is a few days from now- and having been there today when the soon to be bride did her bridal photos- I know she’s going to wow not only her future husband come wedding day, but everyone else. She’s gorgeous inside and out & in her dream gown, even more so.

This trip has been much different than most of our trips home. We usually have an abundance of time to visit with everyone, but this trip hasn’t been like that. I miss being able to see everyone, but being here for this wedding- plus the other wedding that I ended up doing when I was here, I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. I’m grateful!

We have several more weeks here and I know they’ll fly. I am embracing and enjoying every single moment and can’t wait to look back on all the wonderful memories I’ve made.

I’ve forgotten how much I miss the coast this time of the year.

Let the Countdown Begin!

April 2nd, 2016

One month from today- we will be headed home for a very special wedding, plus to spend time with family and friends.     It’s odd, since we generally don’t go home this time of the year, but will be fun for Marcel to experience the Deep South in the middle of the heat and humidity.    Something tells me he’ll be grateful for air conditioning more than ever.

I’ve been picking up odds and ends here and there to take with us, but I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had a lot of time to let the reality sink in of just how soon it really is.   I believe once I get some of the work projects out of the way, including 150 sugar flowers that I need to do ahead of time, because I have a wedding to do when we return, that it will all feel a little more real to me.

I do have the carry-on ready to go.   Well, I have stuff stacked on top of it.   My favorite espresso, plus some of the Torres Black Truffle chips that was on Oprah’s favorite things list this past year.   I bought some and really wanted to share them with my favorite people.   If you are a chip lover then you definitely need to try these.  Best Chips EVER!!  Hands down!    Don’t take my word for it… Try them yourself.    After all, it has to be good if it made it to Oprah’s Favorite Things.

I am so grateful that we have this time to share with the people we love.   To spend time with them, and celebrate the marriage of two of my favorite people.  So many wonderful things happening all around.

Are you planning any travel this year?    If so, where will you go?

Carry On Purchase- Travel Countdown

March 27th, 2016

Last week I wrote on having a little struggle finding a carry-on to replace the one I had which had been broken.  We checked several places while out running errands, only to find that no one had what I was looking for.

Since we also have a lot going on at the moment with work and home projects, I decided to look online and see if I could find a Samsonite carry-on to purchase for a good price.    Marcel’s current carry-on is Samsonite.   We love the light-weight feel, plus the quality, so I did some research and after about fifteen minutes of searching and doing price comparisons, I found exactly what I was looking for.

I ordered it and it was delivered the very next day.   How’s that for service?    I’m always leery about ordering things online that I prefer to ‘see’, but since return shipping was free if I wasn’t satisfied, I figured I had nothing to lose.     That wasn’t something I needed to concern myself with after all, because upon delivery I was THRILLED.

Now the fun part begins-   starting to count down for the trip- and packing-  one step at a time.

I can’t wait to see all of my favorite people!

Travel Time

March 24th, 2016

Today I went out on the quest for a new carry-on.    Mine bit the dust the last time it was used.  My mother-in-law borrowed it when she went to Rome, and when she returned, the handle for the trolley part no longer worked.    I had owned it for many years, and it has served me well.    A gift from my parents.    Now it’s time for something new, out of necessity.

My search today turned up a big zilch.   I want something that I know will last for a long time, so I’m considering Samsonite.   Marcel’s current carry-on is Samsonite and it’s served us very well.  It needs to be soft-sided and also needs to fit within regulations for carry-on baggage.   I would love it to be colored so it will be easy to recognize in the sea of black carry-ons, but that I can do without.   The important thing is finding something that I’m satisfied with, before our trip.

The countdown has officially begun, and I am so excited.   First, a carry-on, or packing could prove difficult.

Vacation Planning

January 28th, 2016

I love to travel- not only the actual being in a space, but also doing the research that leads up to the actual travel and the experience. Truth is, I find the planning to be equally as exciting. Learning about new places, new ‘must see’ things, places not to miss when eating out, local customs, cultures and the list goes on.

When I travel somewhere new, I take a lot of notes, plus I make a lot of lists. I plan routes- plus I’ve learned, (after a stressful encounter where our Tom Tom forgot where it was while we were on our way to Austria), that it’s best to print out routes of the path- as a back-up-plan. I’ll admit that I’ve since given “Tom Tom” the proverbial kick to the curb and now use Google Map App exclusively. When I’m out of my area- I pay the little extra for the data plan that allows me to continue to use Google Maps, plus a quick search to find things in the area I happen to be in- like cheap gasoline, and food!

We’ve now entered that time of travel planning again. This time, since we’re going ‘home’ to visit family my travel agenda is a little less jam packed with planning the best things to see and the best way to get there, but more of quality time spent with people I love. What IS a huge part of the planning, though, is the flights. Despite the insanely low prices of a barrel of oil- the prices of air travel are NOT reflecting the change. I’ve been looking for close to a year and finally found great prices on the dates and schedules that we wanted.

Now that it’s done- all we have to do is kick back and enjoy when the time comes. I, for one, can’t wait.

Cozy Winter Getaway

January 5th, 2016

I was thinking the other day about how great it would be to spend some of the winter curled up in a cabin somewhere- no telephone, a warm fire, soup bubbling on the stove. I can almost picture it in my mind, and brings about feelings of pure bliss. I’ve also wondered why we haven’t taken the time to check out the Cozy Winters Reviews so that we could maybe make this ultimate relaxation vacation happen.

What about you? What’s your ultimate relaxation vacation to get away from it all in the winter?

Life Is Good

October 27th, 2015

vaniniI know that my posts have been few and far between, but we have been traveling here, there and everywhere.

The best part of it all is that I’ve been able to spend it with three of the people I love most in life:  Marcel and my parents.      I’ve also started a love affair with Italy and can’t wait to share more about our adventures there.

Right now, we are enjoying the last couple of days before my parents leave and head home.   I will miss them so much, but I’m more than grateful for the time we’ve been able to spend with them making memories.

The plus is that once we say goodbye, we will be able to start counting down for our next visit- which will be for an amazing wedding next year for one of my favorite couples in the world.

The photo to the right is the result of ‘some’ of the homemade artisan bread mom & I made at a bread workshop with a group of 8 friends.     The olive oil- Vanini Osvaldo, I brought back from Lenno, Italy and I am in LOVE.   If you have the opportunity to purchase some, by all means DO SO!

I have lots of ideas and such bubbling, but right now-   I am going to enjoy the last couple of days with my parents.

Life is indeed- GOOD!  GREAT!

Perfect Days

September 13th, 2015

perfect Earlier this week (Tuesday) I woke up bright and early to visit a friend I haven’t seen in a few weeks.    The sun was shining bright, and the air had the crispness to it that only happens when Fall is on the way.

I walked outside, greeted with the aforementioned- and out loud I said-  “I wish every day was like this.”    Aside from the fact that I was spending the day with a close friend (which makes all days good days), I could feel that everything about the day was going to be amazing.

I was right-    Since I took the train for my journey, it also meant a small layover while I switched connections.   I had two choices-   take a quick potty break, or duck into Starbucks and see if they had the Pumpkin Spice Latte on the menu.     To know me is to know that I chose the latter.   It wasn’t really a contest.

To match my ‘great day’ feeling-   they didn’t have the PSL on the menu, but when I asked- she said that indeed, they did have them.  YAY-  plus to top it off, it was free, which somehow made it all the sweeter.

I spent an energized afternoon with my dear friend- laughing, eating some amazing salad that she whipped up for us both-  soaking up some of natures vitamin D in the form of sunshine, and bouncing ideas off each other for a new project we’re embarking on soon.    It couldn’t have been any better!

When I arrived home-  Marcel met me at the station and we’d decided to go run a few errands and get those out of the way so we didn’t have to do them later.   We grabbed a quick bite out-  did our shopping and then took the ‘long road home’ through some of my favorite countryside in our immediate area.  That’s what you see in the photo.

From beginning to end-   it was beautiful, perfect, and a fully energizing day.    To know that every day isn’t this perfect, made me appreciate it all the more.
